Robocop remake in trouble?

This isn't a good way to start your movie when your director is saying there is trouble on the project.

From Digital Spy, (("I talked to José Padilha by phone. He will begin filming RoboCop [but] he is saying that it is the worst experience," Meirelles said.
"For every ten ideas he has, nine are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight [for]. 'This is hell here', he told me. 'The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again'. He is bitter, but [he's] a fighter."))

This feels like the remake of Total Recall all over again. The studio went in and started cutting entire subplots from the movie. And, the fact that Total Recall didn't make that much money probably has the studio for RoboCop a little worried.

The news is now reporting that Michael (Mr. Mom) Keaton is now going to have a part in the movie. I guess having Batman in your movie isn't a bad thing.

I have no interest in seeing a remake/reboot of this franchise. And, I only love the first two movies in the earlier franchise to begin with. I didn't need the TV show or the cartoon series.

Today, someone at work told me that a girl that I used to work there said this about me. 

“James just doesn’t have any swag.”

I laughed a great deal about this revelation.  First, I had no idea I lacked any type “swag” to begin with.  Second, I didn’t know I needed this “swag”.  Third, I have no idea what the hell is swag. 

I kind of lump swag with Dub Step and YOLO meaning I am too old for this shit.  It used to be a time when you would know what the hell people meant when they were talking about you.  I lump the people that have swag with the same fart-knockers that like Dub Step. 

Since I have no idea what swag means, I looked it up on the Urban Dictionary.

From Urban Dictionary, Swag ((What dipshits who think they're cool say. Swag is basically the most overused term, mainly by faggy "popular kids" who think that teenage angst will get them far in life. These kids have no life, and therefore need to kill themselves. ))

~Final Fantasy XIV: I am really considering getting into the MMO game FFXVI. This is because the game is about to get a major reboot under the name A Realm Reborn. The whole world will be completely changed with cities and areas changing after the reboot. I still need to get PS3 to play it.

The red moon in the picture below is supposedly going to crash into the world before the reboot. It is a nice touch thatthe moon changed colors and size early on and no one noticed at first. And, the moon keeps getting bigger and bigger with each update.

~Sylvester Stallone is having a bad year. He lost his son earlier in the year and now his half sister. This has been a terrible year for Sly. You will remember Sly's son was in the bad Rocky V.

~Neil Armstrong RIP: Yes, this guy made history. He was a Korean War Veteran before going into space. Most people probably didn't know that he on the Gemini 8mission in space before the Apollo mission. I can only dream of going into space this guy did it a few times. Armstrong admitted that he screwed up the speech “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” He dropped the “a” part out of man. Did you know that had to sit in a quarantine chamber for 18 days?

~Pussy Riot: If you remember, a Russian punk band ended up getting arrested and charged by the Russian government. Two of them ended up fleeing the the country.  I hope they get away.  

~George Takei is a smart man: I was checking out his interview on YouTube and he's great at speaking his mind. Takei has had a lot of things happen to him over the years. I remember him trying to get a Captain Sulu TV show off the ground. He might be too old to get the show on the air today, but that would have been cool.

Did you know that early on in Star Trek TNG days, men wore skirts too?

Nope, I am not making this up. They made it a point to show that men could wear the skirt version of the uniform too. I guess this was being progressive in Gene's eyes. During the time, it just came off as being stupid. I didn't even like the women wearing them in the age of the late 80s. It just seemed to be too much of a throwback to the 60's TOS show. And, I get what they were going for. In the 24^thcentury, we won't be hung up on things like gender issues in clothing.  And it turned the whole having women in short skirts on the old show on its head.  Now, men can wear them too!

And, yes the TNG female skirts were sexy on women, but pants would seem to fall into the military uniform stance.  It should be noted that both TOS pilots had women exclusively in pants without a single skirt in sight as far as Star Fleet uniforms go. 

Troi wore one of these the entire first episode before switching to the gray suit. If you watch closely in the last scene of the same episode, Yar is wearing one of these skirts too. She was the chief of security. Why would you wear that considering that your job is to run around protecting and fight people?

Look closely and you can see her wearing it. 

“Skants” would be phased out of the show by the beginning of season 2, probably because Gene's influence was starting to wane around that time. They did bring back the skirts during the flashback scenes in the last episode of TNG.

I found it distracting seeing men in the Skants as they were called in the Treklore. Interestingly enough, this notion of feminine clothing styles on men is now acceptable with man-purses and skinny jeans. It is only a matter of years before male “skirts” become the rage with men. I guess Gene was spot on in predicting transparent aluminum, cell phones and stun setting guns and now men in skirts. (And we can connect the Holodeck to online role playing games.)

Wasn't this song featured on one of the GTA games?

I remember listening to this song way back in the 80s. Most people have totally forgotten about this strange song, but I've heard it before recently. Looking at the wiki, it says this is a synth-pop group called Laid Back. I didn't understand that the song was about cocaine until someone told me.  Imagine my shock as a little kid. 

Here are some of the strange lyrics.

The problem is White Pony is also used for drug use too. From Urban dictionary, ((Cocaine. What is funny about doing research on the terms, the entry on White Horse mentions this song in the entry.

Real Steel

Real Steel

Wow, this is probably the best Robot Fighting I’ve seen…ever.  Do you remember Robot Jox?  Well, this one is way better. It is very corny and silly, but there is something nice about this father and son movie with robots.  It doesn't go too far with the idea. 

The basic premise is an updated version of the movie Over the Top.  It is about a man that hooks up with his estranged son and bonds with him over robot competitions.  So, it is a remake of sorts of Over the Top.  They even have them traveling via a semi truck!  There is even a lot of Rocky in the movie too. 

It is true that this is rock “em sock em robots” the movie, but that’s okay.  I liked the bonding between father and son.  And, the CGI is pretty good and much better than the robots in the second Transformers movie.  It isn’t a great movie, but it is a fine movie for what it is.

The fighting scenes are what really make this an exciting movie.  The fighting really feels real for what giant robots would seem like in this world.  It has a bit of a Tekken vibe with fighting styles and it works here.  Plus, they throw in real boxing elements that make it far more entertaining than I thought it would be.  The last fight is very much like a boxing videogame. 

The movie also hints at the fact the underdog robot may actually be alive, but only on the surface.  It never fully comes out and states it, but it is certainly present.  I’m glad that didn’t answer that question either. 

The movie is far from a masterpiece and it should be noted that this unofficial remake of Over the Top.  Plus, it feels like there are scenes missing and certain subplots were dropped.  Despite this, the movie is a fun little movie with some heartwarming moments and nice fight scenes between CGI robots.  Heck, I liked the movie.

Grade:  C+

 Great. the computer locked up.  Damn you Windows 20!

How to deal with A-holes

I like how this cop handles these Open Carry Activists.  This cop puts this guy in his place by being nice and professional

Surfing the Net, I’ve notice a few of the videos of gun owners walking around the public with their ‘right to carry’ guns.  This usually freaks someone out and they call the cops.  The ‘right to carry’ guys film the confrontation with the cops, hoping to get a bad reaction from the cops.  And, they do this on purpose.  

These guys want a terrible response from the cops so they can post it on the Internet and get the gun rights people up in arms about their “injustice”.  I call it a waste of time for the cops.  I actually support gun rights, because you have to right to protect yourself.  But, why freak people out with guns that look like automatic weapons?

I am a minority, so I try to avoid getting the attention of police officers.

And, think about this.  What kind of reaction would happen if a black guy or a Mexican guy were recorded walking around with perfectly legal weapons?  This reaction would be completely different.  I’m just saying…

Now, this guy was walking around with an AR-15 in a damn public park.

 Given the state of the shootouts around the country, I don’t think it is a bright idea to roam around a park with a weapon like this one even in a right to carry state.  It is necessary to roam around the park with this one?

Tony Scott RIP

Tony Scott RIP

I was shocked when I got the news of director Tony Scott committing suicide.  And, I was even more shocked in the manner he committed suicide (by jumping off a bridge).  Tony Scott is the younger brother director Ridley Scott.  After his death, I’ve realized how many of his movies I have enjoyed over the years.

Beverly Hills Cop II: Scott Made this movie a little bit too serious with more action elements. Where as the first movie was a comedy with action elements, this sequel was an action movie with comedic elements.  It isn't as good as the first one, but certainly light years ahead the third one.  

 The Last Boy Scout :  I didn’t like the movie when it came out, but I’ve grown to like the it.  Bruce Willis is playing the same character as the one from the Die Hard series.  There are some stupid moments, like the football shooting thing, but it still works an action movie.  

Crimson Tide :  I love this action movie.  Washington is great and the script is very sharp.  Scott’s direction is spot on.

Enemy of the State :  I watched this one recently on cable and really enjoyed it.  Will Smith is very good in the leading role.  Take note that a young Jack Black is in this movie too. 

Spy Game :  Again, I watched this one recently on cable.  While it hasn’t aged as well as his older movies, it is still a fun action movie with Brad Pitt. 

Man on Fire :  This was beginning of Scott’s strange editing and disjointed style, but he doesn’t do it that much here, but he over does it in Domino. 

Deja Vu: I love this action time travel movie. This is truly a fun movie.

Unstoppable: I loved this movie too, and it was his last movie.

After doing those action movies from the 80s, he ended up doing a lot of movies with Denzel Washington. He did five movies with Washington.

I'm not sure why he would commit suicide and leave his family (his kids). But, may he rest in peace. He made some good movies.

“Open Gundam Star” as it sounds like to me. 

This is probably the best video/music ever!  Take “I’m Sexy and I know it” and a K-Pop song and throw it in a blender.  This song is so strange and the video is so funny, that I’ve laughed every time I see it.  What in the hell was that?  

The PSY guy has some of the best moves ever.  He’s kind of a cross between Dr. Evil and Jack Black.  His real name is Park Jae-sang and he is surprised with the international attention he's receiving for the song. 

This has already become a Internet Meme.

-Nice colorful glasses, PSY.

-Is the little kid a reference to that little person India video? 

-What exactly is that white stuff blowing in their faces? 

-Take notice of the girls “playing” tennis. 

-Any video that has a K-Pop singer dancing on a bus full of old women is all right in my book. 

-Nice zoom in on a woman’s ass there.  And, his reaction is priceless.

I love the bad acting by the day players, especially from that one dude that looks back at them. If you look closely, only two of the kids look back, and the girl ignores the commotion.

The angry red-head is Courtney Gains, the guy that got his house shitted on. I checked his Wiki for shits and giggles (pun intended), and this nugget of goodness floated to the top. From Wiki, (( He is particularly remembered for a particular line in Can't Buy Me Love, where he confronts Ronald Miller (Patrick Dempsey), the film's protagonist, for throwing a feces bomb at his house on Halloween, grabbing him and screaming, "You shit on my house, man! You shit on my house!"))

He's had steady work for a while now, and he's got movies coming out next year. I hope someone shits on his house.

Blade Trinity: Thoughts

Yes, this is a terrible movie. I found it funny that the producer/writer of the trilogy David S. Goyerwrote the stories for the other movies. But he took it upon himself to direct this movie. It is an utter mess and can't even hold a candle to the first two films.

The movie turned out to be a hit, if modest. But, they never bothered to make other movies.

-Yes, Wesley Snipes didn't get along with the crew or the other actors in his scenes. He felt they were replacing him for potential sequels. He made it be known that he hated working with Jessica Bieland Ryan Reynolds.

-Reynolds and Biel's characters were poorly written and downright lame compared to Blade. Did they really think people wanted to see these characters over Blade?

-Blood Farm: The Blood Harvesting scenes were a leftover of the subplot deleted from the first film. It explained where the vampires would have gotten the supply of blood. They added this subplot into this story.

-The acting is really bad.

-There is a third ending filmed with the new Nightstalkershunting werewolves.

-Patton Oswaltis in this movie? Wait, I totally forgot about that.

-Whistler Dead...again: What was the point of bringing him back for Blade II only to have him killed off in Blade III? And, we don't even get that much interaction with Whistler and Blade in this one.  And, Whistler killing cops?  

This is not the way to end a good franchise that helped renew the Super Hero movies.  Blade deserved better.

Given some of the shit to come out of the 90s, this song was breath of fresh air. It is an easy going song with the exception of a certain portion at the end. Given the state of music today, I'll take this stuff over most of the techno/auto-tune crap.

You know it is the 90s with the "N" being backwards.

I always laugh at the section because what does the first half have to do with Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson? Allegedly, the lead singer wrote that as a test or joke to see if people would notice the Manson/Love stuff and ignore the other stuff. (Did I mention this predates the Hipster movement?) I am not sure I am completely buying it. It sounds a bit pretentious.

And, Manson's reaction to the song is best part. From Wiki, ((Marilyn Manson commented that he was "not mad he said he'd kick my ass, I just don't want to be used in the same sentence as Courtney Love.... I'll crack his [Alexander's] skull open if I see him. ))

No one wants to be lumped in with Courtney Love.

 Calling a movie Sparkle will remind people of Glitter…

Yes, this movie is Whitney Houston’s last movie.  But, why call a “singer” movie Sparkle when people still remember the horrible singer movie Glitter? 

It doesn't matter what I think, because the movie was made on the cheep with a 14 million dollar budget. So, they will muster a hit out of the box office. Right now, Rotten Tomatoes is rating it around 55%, which is pretty high.

ALF:  In a theater near you…

From Hollywood Reporter: ((Sony Pictures Animation has closed a deal to acquire rights to the classic 1980s sitcom ALF and will develop the property into a hybrid CG/live action feature. ))

That's correct they're making a new ALF movie with a CGI model of the hit show ALF.

Did anyone ask for one? I am not sure.

ALF was so popular that it had a sitcom; two cartoon shows and a video game! (And, there was a TV movie years later that tied up loose ends from the show.) But, have you watched the show recently?  It hasn’t aged well.  To put it simply, it is pretty bad.  Heck, not even the actors from the show liked doing ALF.  I mean the show wasn’t that funny looking back at it. 

I actually liked this theme song over the live action one. 

And, Paul Fusco, the voice and puppet guy for ALF, will reprise his role. 

It gets worst. The producer of The Smurfs movie will be producing this one too. Yes, that Smurfs movie. From the Hollywood Reporter, ((Jordan Kerner, who produced SPA’s adaptation of 1980s Saturday morning cartoon staple The Smurfs and helped turn it into a hybrid blockbuster franchise,  ))
